Description

These are two houses, likely originally a canal warehouse, probably dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of roughly squared watershot sandstone, with a slate roof. The north-western elevation, facing the canal, features three ground-floor windows with simple stone surrounds and segmental-headed arches. The central window was formerly a doorway and is now partly blocked. Above, there are three first-floor windows, with an additional stair window to the left of the right-hand one. All windows have simple stone lintels and reveals, except for the central window which has a wooden lintel. Chimneys are present on the gables and between the bays. Eaves are bracketed above the gables. The left-hand gable has a wide segmental-arched opening on the first floor, now blocked. The ground floor of this gable also features a door and window with plain reveals. A first-floor window with plain reveals is also present. The southern gable has a similar opening on the first floor, with the date '1820' inscribed on the keystone of the arch, and a smaller bay window has been inserted. The south-east wall has two doorways, one with a projecting hood and a plain stone surround. It also features two sash windows with glazing bars and plain stone reveals.
