Description
The building located in the garden of Henfield House, approximately 30 metres northeast of it, is of uncertain purpose and date, with some parts possibly serving as a grotto or plant house. It consists of two interconnected rectangular structures that are single storey, with the rear part being sunk. The interior features very large boulders stacked in a quarry-like manner, while the section closest to the house has elegant iron trusses that once supported a glazed roof. The outer face displays formal architectural elements, particularly at both ends. The west end includes an arched Gothick doorway, while the east end is symmetrical and made of rusticated ashlar with rusticated quoins. It has a dentilled and moulded cornice, a pediment, a round-headed doorway with a Tuscan architrave, and rectangular windows with plain surrounds, all of which are oversized and likely relocated. The other part of the structure has a rubble wall and a rectangular doorway with a moulded lintel. Currently, the building is in a ruinous state.
