Description

KIRKHAM PRESTON STREET SD 43 SW 9/30 No.14 - - II

House, dated 1729. Brick rendered with stucco scored to imitate ashlar. Gable stacks to C20 tile roof. 3 storeys above cellar, 2 bays. Doorway (up 5 steps) and windows have plain reveals. Window embrasures on ground and first floors are wide in proportion to their height and may have had a cross window, but all the joinery is now recent. Bands at first and second floor levels. Above the lower band is a square plaque (now painted) bearing the date 1729, the initials H (for James and Elizabeth Harrison) JE and above them the coat of arms of the London Curriers Company: a gold cross on a blue background with crossed curriers' shaves in each quarter, with a crest of a helmet crowned with two arms holding a currier's shave. History: James Harrison was a currier and must have been a member of the London Company.
