Description
Crosse Hall Farmhouse, dated 1667, has been altered and is now a house with a later barn attached at the right end. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a slate roof with two brick chimneys near the left gable. It has a square plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. The farmhouse has a plinth and quoins, and the door is offset to the right, featuring a rectangular lintel dated 1667. To the right of the door is a small rectangular window, and to the left is a modern casement window, with two additional windows above. On each floor, there is a small round-headed window with hollow spandrels and parts of a hoodmould, both of which are blocked and possibly relocated. Above the door, there is random rubble and one jamb indicating a former opening, along with part of a hoodmould. The left gable has a three-light stone mullion window at both the ground and first floor, though the lower window is missing one mullion and the upper window is blocked and missing both mullions. There is a square attic window above, and irregular inserted masonry at the rear corner of the first floor may suggest a former door. The rear wall has two square windows on each floor and a modern porch. The large barn, likely built in the 18th century, shares the same roof and is made of rubble with quoins, featuring a central segmental-arched wagon doorway with dressed stone voussoirs. The interior of the house has been altered, and its original function is not known, but it was probably associated with Crosse Hall, which has since been demolished.
