Description
Summit Bridge is an accommodation bridge built around 1815, located over the former Lancaster Canal at the southern end. It is constructed from rusticated rock-faced sandstone blocks and features an elliptical arch with a keystone and alternating raised and rock-faced voussoirs. The bridge has a plain band and two-course parapets made of scored blocks with rounded tops. On the west side, the parapet continues at its southern end with a 180-degree descending curve leading to the towpath. The deck is humped and paved with boulders. Since 1969-70, the structure has been isolated in a field following the filling in of the canal.
