Description
Nos. 22-26 Bank Street are houses built in 1842 for the Shuttleworths of Gawthorpe Hall, likely designed by Sir Charles Barry. They are constructed from rendered rubble with ashlar dressings and have slate roofs. Nos. 24 and 26, located on either side of Gawthorpe Street, feature nearly symmetrical gable elevations with rusticated quoins, copings on moulded kneelers, two plain windows on each storey, and a door topped with a moulded cornice on carved consoles. Each has a pair of round-arched lights in the attic, with the one in No. 24 dated 1842. On its side facing Gawthorpe Street, No. 26 has a new panelled door and windows from 1984 that follow the original design of the houses in Gawthorpe Street, featuring octagonal panes separated by diamond-shaped panes. No. 22 is a single bay cottage that also has quoins and copings similar to those on No. 24.
