Description
The Old Farmhouse, located approximately 50 metres west of Dyneley Farm, is a building that dates from around the 17th century, with extensions made in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The farmhouse consists of two bays, which likely originally included a gable-end baffle-entry at the south end, now obscured by an added bay.
The building stands two storeys high. The house part in the second bay has a large recessed five-light window with chamfered mullions, although the fourth mullion is missing, and it features a hoodmould. To the right of this window is a former two-light fire window that has been lengthened and is missing its mullion. The first bay contains one three-light mullioned window on each floor, with the upper window showing some damage. The added third bay has a board door with a plain surround, a small square window to the right, and a casement window above. The left gable includes one inserted window on each floor.
Inside, there is a visible firehood bressummer and heck, but the interior has been altered and damaged otherwise. Extending from the front left corner of the house is a lower range built at right angles, made from similar materials, which may have originally served as a stable with a storage loft. This range features a recessed doorway with a chamfered depressed arched lintel on the south wall, although the doorway is partly covered by the slope of the ground. To the left of this doorway is a two-light chamfered mullion window, and at the first floor, there is a small blocked opening. The gable wall of this range has a plain board door.
