Description
These are four lime kilns built into a retaining wall that is attached to the canal embankment at the rear of Number 38, which is not included in this listing. Likely constructed between 1796 and 1800, the structure has been altered over time. The wall is made of coursed sandstone blocks and features a canted projection from the embankment. There are two pairs of kiln furnaces: one pair in the front section and another pair on the left side. Each kiln has low segmental arches with plain voussoirs, and to the left of each arch, there is the base of a triangular buttress. Additionally, there is a one-course band located five courses above the arches.
