Description
The K6 telephone kiosk located to the north of Tyldesley Chapel is a notable structure designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V's coronation in 1935. Between 1936 and 1968, nearly 60,000 of these red kiosks were installed throughout Britain, produced by various contractors. The K6 design features three glazed sides with eight rows of three panes of glass, where each row consists of a wide middle pane flanked by two narrow outer panes. The back panel of the kiosk is blank.
This particular K6 kiosk is made of cast iron and has a distinctive domed roof. It includes unperforated crowns on its top panels and margin glazing on the windows and door.
