Description

Tyldesley Chapel is a chapel built in 1789 for the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion, and it now serves as a Pentecostal church. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a three-sided gallery plan consisting of three by one bays, with a 20th-century addition to the east side. The gabled front has two panelled doors with moulded surrounds and flat hoods. Above each door, on both floors, there is a simple Venetian window with leaded glass. The date of construction is noted in a roundel panel in the gable, which is topped by a 19th-century bellcote. The first and third bays of the side elevations are slightly set back, and each bay contains a window that was adapted from the Venetian style to a round-headed window in the 19th century. The chapel has a coped parapet and gable, with a blind Y-tracery window and a gable pediment in brick relief at the rear. Inside, the gallery is supported by timber columns, and there is a 19th-century organ chamber. The interior features 20th-century panelling and pews sourced from elsewhere, while the ceiling remains plain.
