Description
Garrett Hall is a farmhouse located on Garrett Lane in Tyldesley. It is a timber-framed structure dating from the 17th century, which has been largely rebuilt in brick during the 18th and 19th centuries and rendered in the 20th century. The building has a slate roof and a T-shaped plan, consisting of four bays and two storeys.
The front features a studded oak door in the third bay, with a five-pane overlight above it. There is a 16-pane sash window in the gabled crosswing, while the other windows are replacement casements with two and three lights. A second door, similar to the first, is located on the right return. The farmhouse has three brick chimney stacks, and timber posts are visible at the rear, which includes a continuous outshut and a projecting brick chimney stack. Part of the outshut may date from the late 17th century and features a horizontally sliding sash window.
Inside, the building has chamfered beams with run-out stops, an inglenook with a bressumer beam, and timber-framed internal crosswalls. Other interior features include doors and a staircase. Garrett Hall was formerly the residence of the Tyldesley family.
