Description

The stump of an old boundary cross is located in the school yard on Warrington Road in Goose Green, Wigan. This structure is likely medieval and made of gritstone. It was originally part of a boundary marking within the manor of Pemberton and has been relocated to its current site. The base of the cross measures approximately 1 meter square and stands about 0.5 meters high, featuring tongue-stop chamfered corners. The stump of the shaft rises to approximately 1 meter high, being square at the base but transitioning to an octagonal shape halfway up.
