Description
This is a house located at 704 Warrington Road in Wigan, dating from the mid-18th century and altered over time. The facade is made of handmade red brick laid in Flemish bond, with a sandstone plinth and dressings, while the left gable wall and rear are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble. The roof is slate. The house has a double-depth, double-fronted layout, standing two storeys high with two windows that are nearly symmetrical. It features a high chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, and a first-floor sill band. The doorway is offset to the left and includes a set-in wooden doorcase, a boarded door, a plain overlight, and a plain rectangular lintel, likely from the 19th century. There are two large rectangular windows on each floor, all with wedge lintels that have real keystones, and they now contain 20th-century 9-pane glazing. A rectangular stone plaque on the centre of the sill band is eroded. The left gable wall has been partly rebuilt with brick at the apex, and the rear has been altered. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have features of interest. The house forms a group with the adjoining property at No. 706 on the right.
