Description
The quadrangle of farm buildings at Hyde Hall consists of stables, barns, and hay lofts. It features three brick ranges with keystones dated 1839, 1850, and 1859, inscribed with "M. W." or "M. Woodiwis." The south-west range includes a timber-framed structure with a lintel dated "RHM 1687," referring to Robert and Mary Hyde. The buildings are constructed of brick with graduated stone slate and slate roofs, forming four sides of the quadrangle, which is generally two storeys high, except for the Hall.
The entrance front has a central gable with an open pediment and an oculus, flanked by swept sides above an elliptical arched driftway entrance with a keystone. This entrance is bordered by ogee-headed panels, and on either side are rows of round-headed openings, some of which are blind while others feature honeycomb vents, a recurring detail throughout the quadrangle. Inside the gable, there is a dovecote set in an arched recess. Arched driftways are also present on two of the other sides. The timber-framing in three structural bays has square panels and diagonal braces at both the top and bottom of the principal posts.
