Description

Crown Pole is a historic structure located in Longdendale's Market Place. Originally erected in 1760 for the coronation of King George III, it has been replaced twice, first in 1902 and again in 1926. The pole stands on a stepped circular stone base that is inscribed with "Re-newed by Lord Tallomache kings crowning 1902". The tapering cast iron pole features an inscription noting that it was renewed by Harold Chapmans J.P. c.c. in February 1926. At the top of the pole is a weather-cock.
