Description
Stanley Hall is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating back to 1662, as indicated by the inscription "1662 John Brown" on the door lintel. The building features box framing set on a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof and brick additions at the rear. It originally had two storeys, but the upper floor has been removed, leaving a three-bay structure. The framing is square-panel with diagonal braces, and while the design is generally symmetrical, the entrance is located to the right of the second bay. This entrance is highlighted by a double-ovolo-moulded surround and the dated lintel. The first and third bays each contain a three-light casement window on both levels, while the second bay, which is gabled, features a five-light ovolo-moulded mullion window with a carved decorative lintel, along with a four-light ovolo-moulded mullion window in the gable. An exposed roof truss can be seen on the left gable. The brick additions at the rear are not considered to be of special interest. A photograph of the building can be found in F. Moss's "A History of Cheadle in Cheshire," published in 1894.
