Description

Oakenrod Hall is a house built around 1650 for the Garside family, with an early 18th-century wing added for Edmund Butterworth, along with other wings from various dates. The building features random dressed stone with stone dressings and a stone slate roof, while the front wing is made of dressed stone and the rear wing is constructed of brick. The original structure has a three-unit plan across two storeys, with a central house part that has an entrance to the left, a porch on the left gable, and a rear wing. Additional wings were added to the front and rear of the left unit and diagonally to the right-hand gable end. The main range consists of five bays plus the width of the left-hand wing. There are nine three-light windows with flush cavetto moulded mullions and transoms, featuring semi-continuous headmoulds. The main chimney stack, which was originally located to the left of the door, has been removed, and the door itself no longer retains its original surround. The left wing has been largely rebuilt but still features chamfered mullioned windows and quoins. The end porch has a coped gable and kneelers. The rear elevation includes various windows: cross mullioned five-light double chamfered, two-light flush chamfered, one-light circular headed, and six-light flush chamfered mullioned windows. Inside, there is a closed string twisted baluster staircase with an unusual twisted newel pole that supports a ceiling beam.
