Description
No. 31 Toad Lane is a house that has been converted into a museum, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has three bays on the upper floors. The ground floor has been altered to include two multipaned bay windows, and there is evidence of a former central entrance. The windows are fitted with stone sills and wedge lintels, though they have replacement glazing bars. The roof is hipped at the front and gabled at the rear. This location was significant as it served as the first shop of the Co-operative Movement, opened by the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society in 1844.
