Description
The United Reformed Church, built in 1866, is a chapel constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. It features a first-floor meeting hall and vestry above an undercroft. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension to the north and single-storey vestries on the east side. The façade consists of three bays with a stone plinth and four giant pilasters, with the two central pilasters ending in bold pinnacles. Stone banding and a coped gable with a finial complete the design.
The central doorway is semi-circular headed and flanked by engaged columns with crocket capitals, a fanlight above, a projecting modillion cornice, and a parapet that serves as the base for three semi-circular headed windows on the first floor. The first and third bays each contain two semi-circular headed windows beneath pointed dripmoulds. The six-bay side elevations also have stone banding and semi-circular headed windows with stone voussoir arches. The three-bay vestry features similar windows, with the central window topped by a coped gablet. Inside, the meeting hall is supported by cast iron columns, and the entrance hall provides access via twin staircases.
