Description
Wellfield House is a house built between 1830 and 1840, constructed from ashlar stone with a slate roof. It features a central-staircase plan with five bays and two storeys. The building has a projecting plinth, an eaves cornice with a blocking course, and a hipped roof. The central door, which is from the 20th century, is flanked by pilasters and has a segmental fanlight and a hood supported by consoles. An elaborate decorative cast-iron trellis porch with a swept lead roof is designed in the Regency style. The windows are symmetrically arranged, with four on the ground floor and five on the first floor, all replaced with 20th-century casements. There are chimney stacks located to the left and at the rear of the house. An addition was made to the rear left in the later 19th century, featuring a guilloche frieze. Inside, the house boasts rich cornices, a pedimented doorcase, and an original mantel in the principal room. The dogleg stair has shaped brackets on a cut string and a scroll stop on the handrail.
