Description
The lodges and gates to Hollinwood Cemetery, built in 1889, are constructed from coursed and squared sandstone and topped with Welsh slate roofs. The main gate features a segmental overarch beneath a steep gable, flanked by arched side gates that have turrets on the parapet above. The gates are made of cast iron.
To the left is the principal lodge, which is two stories high and has an L-shaped plan with a tower and spire at the angle. It includes a projecting gabled porch and windows that are both mullioned and transomed, along with an oriel window in the gable facing the street. The lodge has coped gables and axial stacks, while the tower features narrow stair windows and a balconette beneath the clock stage, topped with a gabletted parapet above the spirelet.
The right-hand lodge is designed in a similar, though less ornate, style, featuring a wide gabled dormer to the left and a central gabled porch. It has paired two-pane sash windows, some with transoms, and a canted bay window in the gable end.
