Description
Devon Mill is a cotton spinning mill built in 1908 by G. Stott for the Devon Mill Ltd. It is steam-powered and features a cast-iron and steel frame with brick walls, a flat roof, and stands four storeys tall with a basement. The building measures 36 bays by 10 and has corner stair towers with raised parapets. It has tall flat-headed windows with corbelling above the ground and upper storeys, a continuous stone sill band at the upper storey, and enriched corbelled eaves.
At the southwest corner, there is an integral main stair and sprinkler tower that projects one storey above the main roof-line. The west elevation has a round-arched entrance doorway that is now partly blocked, with triple windows on each floor above. The parapet features stone dressings. An engine house projects from the northwest side and includes four round-arched windows with stone dressings. The west elevation also has a rope race, which is stressed with four blind corbelled panels and has four windows on each side. There are modified loading doors to the right of the rope race, and a detached chimney is located to the north.
