Description

Hathershaw Hall and Hathershaw Cottage is a former hall, later converted into five dwellings and now used as two. It likely dates from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the later 17th century. The building is constructed from coursed and squared rubble with a stone flagged roof. It is two storeys high and consists of three distinct sections, which may reflect different phases of construction. The central section features a three-window range and has a doorway located against the right-hand gable wall. At the time of inspection, it had four lower windows with one, two, and three mullioned lights, while the upper windows had three and one mullioned lights, all with hollow chamfered mullions. Although the stack is now missing, it was likely positioned to the left of the doorway, against a cross passage. The left-hand block may have been a former cross wing, with its roof running parallel to the main range. It has a doorway to the right and a three-light window that has been renewed in the original openings on each floor. The left-hand gable features a ball finial and has a stack towards the front slope. The taller range on the right is a later 17th-century addition, with six closely spaced mullioned and transomed windows on each floor, an axial stack, and a ball finial on the coped right-hand gable.
