Description
St Anselm Hall is a villa, now part of a hall of residence, built around 1840. It has been altered and greatly enlarged since its original construction. The building features white-painted stucco on brick and has a hipped slate roof. It was originally designed in an L-shape and consists of two storeys with a cellar, displaying a 2:2 window arrangement.
The facade of the projecting wing on the left is symmetrical, characterized by a high plinth, a plain frieze, and a prominent bracketed cornice. There is a flight of steps leading up to a square-headed doorway, which has a raised moulded surround that includes a frieze with a keyblock, a moulded cornice, and a short blocking course. An electric lamp is now attached to the lintel above the doorway, which features a 4-panel door with a rectangular overlight. On each floor, there are two 20-pane sashed windows, all with raised sills.
To the right, the set-back range includes a shallow rectangular bay window at ground floor level and two cross-window casements above. There are 20th-century additions to the left side of the building. The rear and interior of the building have not been inspected.
