Description

This is a house, built around 1833 to 1836 and renovated in the late 20th century. It is located in Moon Grove, Rusholme, Manchester, and forms a group with numbers 5, 6, and 7. The house is constructed of brown and grey brick in a Flemish bond pattern (with grey bricks as the horizontal headers), and has a slate roof. It follows a double-depth, double-fronted plan, with a rear extension. The two-story house has cellars and features a symmetrical facade with three windows. A set of steps leads to a round-headed doorway containing a panelled door and a fanlight with later leaded tracery. The windows are 12-pane sashed and have been restored.

Inside, there is a stick-baluster staircase. The front room on the right contains an original fireplace made of pale mottled marble, featuring a semicircular arched opening, a keystone, panelled spandrels, and a decorated cast-iron grate. The house was part of a small development built by a flour dealer who purchased the site of Moon Grove in 1833.
