Description

Nos. 24, 26, and 28 on Dale Street are three townhouses dating from the late 18th century, which have been altered and are now used as a public house and office. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with Nos. 24 and 26 featuring scored stucco at the ground floor, now painted brown above, and a slate roof. The structure is L-shaped, formed by a double-depth main range with a rear wing to No. 24. Originally single-fronted, No. 24 has been modified to incorporate No. 26, resulting in a double-fronted appearance.

The buildings rise three storeys over cellars and were originally designed with 2+2+2 windows, but now present a 2+5 window arrangement. They feature a continuous wooden cornice with dentils along the eaves. No. 24 has a central round-headed doorway with an open-pedimented doorcase supported by engaged columns, along with altered windows at the ground floor and a chamfered corner with an inserted window. Nos. 26 and 28 have raised doorways with moulded architraves and triangular pediments, accessed by three steps, with No. 26 retaining its original ramped railings.

On the first floor, all three buildings have segmental-headed windows, mostly sashed with glazing bars and exposed boxes, although the windows on No. 24 have been altered. The second floor features sashes with glazing bars. The buildings have two ridge chimney stacks and a gable chimney on the right side. The rear wing is three storeys high and has three windows similar to those at the front. The interior has not been inspected.
