Description
No. 3 Brazil Street is a shipping and packing warehouse, likely built around 1870 and altered since then. The building features sandstone ashlar and red brick with sandstone dressings, and its roof is concealed. It has a small rectangular plan with a loading bay on the left side. The structure consists of a basement and five storeys, with the fifth storey possibly being rebuilt or added later.
The facade is symmetrical with five windows, and the three-bay center slightly projects forward. The basement is rusticated, while the ground floor is made of ashlar and has a cornice. The first floor also features a cornice, and there are sill-bands on the upper floors. The ground floor includes a four-bay arcade with wide elliptical-headed openings, roundels in the spandrels, a loading-bay entrance in the first bay, windows in the center pair, and a doorway in the fourth bay that has a raised surround and a modillioned cornice.
On the first floor, there are segmental-headed four-pane sash windows, with those in the center linked by impost bands and keyed hoodmoulds. The second floor has square-headed four-pane sashes in the center with linked stone lintels, and segmental-headed sashes in the outer bays. The third floor features round-headed sash windows with linking impost bands, and the center windows form an arcade. The top floor, made of 20th-century brick, has 20th-century windows, including four in the center. A chimney is located at the rear left corner. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value with the adjacent properties at 42 and 44 Sackville Street.
