Description
No. 61 Oxford Street is a shop that has been converted into a restaurant. It is part of a block mainly occupied by Nos. 127 to 133 Portland Street and is located at the end of the return side of that building. Constructed in 1860 by P. Nunn for Louis Behrens and Sons, the building has undergone alterations. It features a combination of ashlar and brick, with the roof concealed. The structure stands five storeys tall and has five windows arranged in a continuous arcade. The ground and first floors are adorned with banded pilasters at the corners and a moulded cornice that continues from Nos. 127 to 133 Portland Street. The ground floor has been altered, while the first floor showcases continuous glazing behind a screen of very slender shafts. The second floor has tall segmental-headed windows, and the third floor features shorter round-headed windows, all with slender shafts, topped by a stone band with keystones above the windows. The fourth floor consists of a band of square windows, also with similar shafts. This building is included for its group value.
