Description
Nos. 8 and 8A on St John Street are late 18th-century town houses that have been altered and are now used as consulting rooms and a house. They are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond, with the roof not visible. The buildings have a double-depth plan, with each house being single-fronted and featuring back extensions. They rise three storeys above cellars and have a total of five bays, with three on one side and two on the other. Key architectural features include a plinth, a sill-band at the first floor, and an altered cornice. The round-headed doorway has a Tuscan doorcase with an open pediment, a panelled door, and a semi-circular fanlight. The windows are sashed with exposed boxes, raised sills, and flat-arched heads. There are ridge chimneys, and the rear of the buildings has been altered. The interior has not been inspected. These houses form the eastern end of a terrace on the north side of the street.
