Description
24A and 26 St John Street are a pair of townhouses, now used as offices, built in the late 18th century and altered over time. They are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond, with the facade of 24A apparently rebuilt. The buildings have a double-depth plan, each being single-fronted with back extensions. They rise three storeys over cellars and feature seven bays, complete with a plinth, a first-floor sill-band, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice.
The doorways, located in the fourth and fifth bays, are round-headed and framed by open-pedimented Tuscan doorcases, with panelled doors and semi-circular fanlights. The windows are sashed, with 12 panes on the first floor and 9 panes on the second, featuring exposed boxes, raised sills, and flat-arched heads. Notably, the leftmost window on the first floor has a shaped pediment, while the one above it is adorned with a cornice. The buildings have ridge chimneys and form part of a terrace on the north side of the street. The rear and interior of the buildings were not inspected.
