Description
No. 28 St John Street is a town house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a rectangular plan situated on a corner site and a single front. It stands three storeys high above a cellar and features two bays, a plinth, a first-floor sill-band, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice.
To the right, there is a large square-headed doorway with a late 19th or early 20th-century pedimented sandstone doorcase, a panelled door, and a rectangular overlight. The windows are 12- and 9-pane sashed with exposed boxes, raised sills, and flat-arched heads. A chimney is located on the side wall. The left return wall, which faces Byrom Street, has five windows, including two early 20th-century oriel windows and other sashed windows without glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected. The building forms the left end of a terrace on the north side of the street.
