Description

The Roman Catholic Church of St Patrick, built in 1936 by H. Greenhalgh, is located on Livesey Street in Miles Platting, Manchester. This church is constructed of red brick with white stone dressings and features a slate roof, showcasing a Romanesque style. The building has a nave flanked by north and south aisles, a west tower, and an apsidal sanctuary.

The facade is stepped and symmetrical, highlighted by a square central tower that has a narrow set-back and slightly lower side sections. At each end of the aisles, there are square two-storey porches, all adorned with stone parapets and flat roofs. The tower features a giant blank arch that contains a shallow portal with a round-headed doorway, which is topped with a mosaic tympanum. There are three round-headed lancet windows framed in white stone. The side sections have tall lancets, while the porches have doorways similar to the central one, including tympanums, but are generally simpler, with small round-headed windows above.

Inside, the church has an impressive basilican layout, with aisle arcades made of yellow marble, featuring carved concave capitals and round-headed arches with panelled soffits. The ceiling is coffered, and there is a round-headed sanctuary arch leading to the apse, which is decorated with gilt and coloured mosaics.
