Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 90 is a canal lock built between 1804 and 1805 for the Rochdale Canal Company, and it has been restored. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone and features wooden gates. The lock chamber is 14 feet wide and has pairs of gates at both ends, with a ladder located in the center of the north side. This lock is the seventh in a series of nine locks that connect the former Rochdale Canal basin at Dale Street with the Bridgewater Canal basin at Castlefield, and all are currently in working order. Lock Number 90 is part of a group that includes Lock Number 91 and the Lock Keeper's Cottage to the west, as well as Albion Street Bridge to the east.
