Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 89, also known as Tib Lock, is a canal lock built between 1804 and 1805 for the Rochdale Canal Company. The lock is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features wooden gates. It has a chamber that is 14 feet wide, with pairs of gates at both ends and a ladder located in the center of the north side. This lock is the sixth in a series of nine locks that extend the former Rochdale Canal basin at Dale Street to the Bridgewater Canal basin at Castlefield, and it remains in working order. The lock is part of a group that includes Havelock Mills at 72-76 Great Bridgewater Street and the Albion Street Bridge to the west.
