Description
The lock-up, dated 1835, is located abutting No 2 Old Dungeon Inn to the south. It is constructed at the angle between the rear wing and the back of the inn. The building is a single-storey structure with a crudely rusticated stone exterior and dressed coping. The iron-bolted door features six panels, a large mortice lock, and a lion head above the stone knocker, set in a bevelled corner. A primitive human face is carved into the stonework on the right side of the door, while a key is depicted on the left side. The roof is made of large stone slabs with a central vent. Originally, the lock-up was managed by the publican and later by the village constable.
