Description

The Statue of Sir Robert Peel, erected in 1852, is located in the Market Place. It features a shaped plinth made of Aberdeen granite, with the front displaying a shield that includes the motto "Industria" and the name Peel. The sides of the plinth have reliefs that represent commerce and navigation, while the back showcases a circular panel bordered by corn, which encloses an extract from a speech by Peel. All of these elements are made of bronze. The statue itself is a bronze standing figure of Sir Robert Peel, created by the sculptor E H Baily.
