Description

Random Cottage is a probable 16th-century farmhouse, believed to date to 1541, now used as a cottage and with associated outbuildings. It is constructed of coursed and squared stone with a stone flagged roof. The cottage has a two-unit plan, with an entrance into a hall. The front elevation features a doorway flanked by a four-light mullioned window to the left and a six-light mullioned and transomed window to the right, both with hoodmoulds. Above, there are mullioned windows of two and four lights. To the right of the cottage, an outbuilding stands, which may have once been used domestically. A blocked doorway to its left has been cut by a buttress, and a present doorway is accompanied by a four-light mullioned window. Rough stone in the gable end suggests a former eastward extension of the building. The interior was not inspected.
