Description
The Former All Souls School, built around 1880, is a church school that now serves as a community centre. It was likely designed by the architects Paley and Austin, who also designed the nearby Church of All Souls. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof.
The structure consists of two blocks that meet at right angles, with an entrance porch located at their junction. The left block, which runs parallel to the street, is a single storey and features four 3-light mullioned and transomed windows with plain tracery, all connected by a continuous hoodmould. It has a moulded stone parapet. The gabled entrance porch includes a moulded stone doorway with a geometrical traceried overlight and an asymmetrical hoodmould.
The block that is perpendicular to the street is two storeys high, showcasing paired traceried mullioned and transomed windows on each floor within the gable. The first-floor window has a transom adorned with billet moulding. The gable is coped and topped with a finial. The return side has a five-window range with two- and three-light mullioned and transomed windows; the ground floor windows are arched while the first-floor windows are flat-headed, both featuring drop-ended hoodmoulds. The interior has not been inspected.
