Description
The Manse at the United Reformed Church, built in 1897, was designed by architect Jonathan Simpson. It is constructed from snecked squared red sandstone and features a slate roof. The building is two stories high and has a two-window range facing Blackburn Road, with the entrance located on the return elevation to Hibbert Street. The Blackburn Road elevation includes an advanced gabled wing on the right, which has a full-height canted bay window with mullions and Perpendicular traceried heads on the lower lights. There are two-light windows on each floor of the left-hand bay. The rear wing facing Hibbert Street has a three-window range, with a doorway towards the center topped by a pediment that displays the date, 1897. There are single windows in irregular pairs on either side of the door, and a three-light window on each floor to the right, also featuring traceried heads on the lower windows. The building has end wall stacks. The manse was constructed to serve the adjacent Congregational Church, which is now the United Reformed Church.
