Description
The retaining walls and railing of the semi-circular forecourt were built between 1811 and 1813 by Thomas Harrison of Chester. Constructed from ashlar and cast iron, the structure features two quarter-circular walls with spurs to the north and east, creating a semi-circular enclosure in front of 'B' block. The battered retaining wall has a roll moulding below the top. There are rectangular piers with mouldings beneath their tops. The cast iron railing panels consist of three rectangles each, arranged in an imposed cross pattern.
