Description
The water tower, located approximately 20 metres west of Bostock Hall, was built around 1850 and later modified around 1875. It is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick, with Ruabon brick used for the upper body, and features stone dressings along with a roof made of shingles and lead. The tower is square and consists of three stages.
The courtyard facade shows the lower stage, which is made of plain brick from around 1850, and includes a cambered-headed doorway. This doorway was originally accessed by an external staircase that has since been blocked. Above this, there is a cyma-moulded stone string course. The second stage is made of Ruabon brick and has an offset, with two recessed rectangular panels. Another cyma-moulded string course separates this from the third stage, which features six panels of blind cusped tracery.
The third stage includes bartizans with moulded stone and brick bases topped with lead spires. Above this, there is a row of twelve cusped panels and three pairs of lights. At the very top, the tower is capped with a splay-footed octagonal spire that has a short ridge.
