Description
The walls, gatepiers, and gates surrounding the rose garden against the west terrace at Inglewood date from around 1915 and were possibly designed by T H Mawson for F H Fox. They are constructed of orange brick in English garden wall bond, with red sandstone dressings. The wall is divided by square piers that feature a pierced Jacobean-style border at the top, topped with moulded stone coping. Major gateways are located on the west, south, and north sides, where the walls rise to brick piers. These piers are designed in a Greek cross layout, standing on brick plinths with tiled capstones and ball finials. The west side includes a pair of wrought iron gates with plain bars and a border of curlicues, along with a lock rail and dog bars, as well as similar side gates. There is a large semi-circular overthrow adorned with scrollwork and the Fox crest. The gate on the south side resembles the central pair, while the gates on the north side are missing.
