Description

Lane Ends Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1695, with some alterations. It is constructed of brown brick in an irregular bond and has a graded grey slate roof. The building has two storeys plus attics, featuring a cross-wing on the left and a main wing with a two-storey porch and two windows on each storey to the right. There is a plain three-course brick band at the first floor level. A chimney is located just behind the ridge at the junction of the wings, with a flush chimney on the right gable.

The gabled porch has a basket arch at the front and bricked-up basket arches on the sides, along with a blocked casement window on the second storey that has stone above inscribed with "MM:F:RF:1695" and a blocked small round opening in the gable. The windows on both main storeys have been replaced with cross-casements, and there is a replaced wood casement in the attic of the cross-wing gable, as well as blocked and altered windows in the right end-gable. The door has also been replaced.

Inside, the door opens immediately to the right of the main chimney. The farmhouse originally had back-to-back inglenooks, with the left one now blocked and the right one altered. There is a square open-well oak stair leading to the upper storey and attic. Some oak beams are present, including one with an ovolo profile on the upper floor, and there is a notable boat-shaped queen-post truss with turned-in principal rafters and curved struts in the cross-wing. The interior features some three-board doors and one six-panel door. The cellar was not inspected.
