Description
Thornton Hall is a farmhouse that likely originated in the 17th century and was remodeled in the 18th century, with an early 19th-century wing added at the rear. The building is constructed of brick, with some areas pebbledashed, and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and four windows that are irregularly spaced, with timber casements that are either two or three lights. The original six-panel door has been altered to four panels and is partly glazed, located below the second window. An added trellised porch enhances the entrance. The gables have stone coping, and there are brick stacks at the gable ends. The roof is low pitched and may have been raised.
Inside, there are doors with five and six panels. The 18th-century staircase features turned balusters and a shaped mahogany rail. Additionally, there is a 19th-century cheese hoist that connects the dairy to the storage area above. The cross wing may have originally included a leaded window from the 17th century.
