Description

Northgate Locks is a staircase of three locks built around 1790 by Thomas Telford for the Chester Canal Company. The structure is made of sandstone and features double gates for each lock, with the gates replaced in steel except for part of the upper gates of the upper lock. There is a footbridge across each lock, equipped with an iron handrail. The paving, ramps, and steps are made of stone and brick, with some repairs done in concrete. Additionally, there are iron mooring bollards present.
