Description

This is a small lock, lock gates, and a swing bridge, located within the Vale Royal Locks along the Weaver Navigation. It dates to approximately 1860. The lock is constructed of red sandstone ashlar, with wooden lock gates and a wood and iron swing bridge. It is rectangular in shape, featuring two sets of two lock gates and the swing bridge. The red sandstone walls enclose the lock. The swing bridge, positioned south of the center, has a platform of wooden planks with a balustrade of steel beams. The lock gates include walkways leading to their tops, with handrails made of tubular steel. Originally, this was the large lock, with the current sluice functioning as the small lock prior to alterations circa 1890.
