Description
This is a three-storey town house, built in 1783 and altered, repaired, and converted to offices in 1989. It is constructed of Flemish bond brown brick, with a grey slate roof. The ground floor has a painted stone plinth and two stone steps leading to a front door consisting of six fielded panels with a radial-bar fanlight in an east-facing pedimented doorcase. It features replaced flush two-pane sashes, with three windows on each of the upper floors, the third floor windows being smaller. The window sashes have 12 panes on the first and second floors, and 9 panes on the third floor. Painted stone sills and a sillband are present on the second floor, with painted, slightly cambered, gauged brick window surrounds. A cornice runs along the top of the building. A rainwater head with the date 1783 is located on the east side, and the east chimney is shared with the adjacent property at No. 1 Stanley Place. A west gable chimney is also present. The rear elevation has been altered, with sashes needing repair. Internally, the front room on the first floor has panelling below a dado rail, panelled shutters, a cornice, a rear alcove beneath a three-centre arch, and a later fireplace. The open-string dogleg staircase has shaped brackets, plinthed stick balusters, paired tapered newels at the turn, and a swept handrail. The front room on the second floor mirrors the first floor room with panelling, shutters, a cornice, and a later fireplace. Four doors with six fielded panels are present, two on each of the first and second floors.
