Description
No. 7 Stanley Place is a town house, now used as offices, dating from around 1780. It is constructed of Flemish bond brown brick and has a grey slate roof. The building stands three storeys high, plus an attic in a mansard style. Access is via three stone steps leading to a door with four fielded panels above two flush panels, topped with a plain overlight, all set within a pedimented doorcase. Each storey features two replaced two-pane recessed sash windows with painted stone sills and slightly cambered painted gauged-brick heads, while the mansard contains two 12-pane dormer sashes. There are two chimneys on the east shared with No. 5 Stanley Place and one chimney on the west.
The rear of the building has been extended and altered, featuring a tall 42-pane stair window on the east face of the rear wing and a 12-pane dormer in the mansard. Inside, there is a part-glazed inner front door with two fielded lower panels, sidelights, and an overlight, likely from the late 19th century. The front room has a door with six fielded panels and the rear room has a door with five fielded panels. The front room also includes large panels beneath the dado rail, panelled embrasure shutters, a segmental full-width arch near the back, and a cornice. The open-string staircase features fretted brackets, tapered newels, plinthed stick balusters, and a swept handrail that is carved at the lower end to resemble a hand emerging from a sleeve, grasping the newel-head. The second storey front room has a door with five fielded panels, large panels beneath the dado rail, and a cornice. The rear room in the main block has a door with five fielded panels, a modest Classical fire surround, and a cornice. The stairwell features a basket arch on fluted pilasters, and the stair continues to the third and fourth storeys, which do not have any notable features of special interest.
