Description
Abbotsmoss Hall is a country house built around 1800. It features red Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and a slate roof with lead flashings. The building has two storeys and an entrance front with nine bays. The seven bays on the left are symmetrically arranged, with three slightly projecting central bays. An ashlar band runs at the level of the first-floor window sills, continuing around the building. The central doorway is framed by an ashlar porch with antae on the sides, flanked by windows. The first floor has windows with three sets of four sash panes, all set on stone sills with wedge lintels. There are pilaster buttresses at the left corner and to the right of the seven bays, with two additional similar bays on the right.
On the left side, there are three bays featuring a central tri-partite window, with a ground floor window of three sets of five panes and one set of five panes on either side. Canted late 19th-century bays are located on both sides. The lateral first-floor windows are tri-partite, with central lights of three sets of four panes and lateral lights of one set of four panes. The central window also has three sets of four panes. At the rear, there are seven bays, with the central three slightly projecting and pilaster buttresses on the sides. All the windows here consist of three sets of four sash panes.
Inside, the central staircase hall features an open well staircase with three flights. The balusters and handrail are from the early 20th century, and the staircase may date from a similar period. The first floor includes a landing on three sides, topped by a panelled ceiling with a central skylight. Some original fireplaces remain, with two featuring circular grates.
