Description

Nos. 1, 3, and 5 Cuppin Street, along with No. 14 Grosvenor Street, are four small townhouses that have been converted into two townhouses and a restaurant occupying No. 14 Grosvenor Street and No. 1 Cuppin Street. The buildings are constructed of brown Flemish bond brick on Cuppin Street and the west end facing Union Place, while the east side on Grosvenor Street features partly repaired and painted brick.

The Cuppin Street facade includes the north end of No. 14 Grosvenor Street, with the fronts of No. 1 (which has one bay), No. 3 (which is double-fronted), and No. 5 (which has one bay). The buildings are three storeys high, with a painted sandstone plinth. There are three timber doorcases featuring simple pilasters, friezes, and cornices. The doors consist of six flush panels, four recessed panels, and six flush panels respectively. Each storey has four recessed sash windows with 16 panes, painted stone sills, and wedge lintels on the first and second storeys, while the third storey has 12-pane windows located just below the eaves. Additional features include two cast-iron rainwater pipes and heads, plain stone coping at the eaves, and two ridge chimneys.

The Grosvenor Street facade has an altered lower storey with a pair of part-glazed doors and two segmental-arched shop windows located south of the doors, with one more to the north. The upper storeys are painted and feature two recessed 16-pane sashes with stone sills and wedge lintels on the second storey, and two 12-pane unequal sashes just below the eaves on the third storey. The west end has a blocked sash opening on each storey, while the rear has no visible features of special interest.

The interior of the restaurant does not have any notable features, and the interiors of Nos. 3 and 5 Cuppin Street have not been inspected. No. 16 Grosvenor Street forms part of the restaurant.
